Sorry I said I was going to blog about the other things but just so much has happened I don’t think they fit into categories anymore.
Though to continue on the dentistry topic, I am continually reminded of how God provides. Have a blog to write about that but not for now.
As for the other matters on my heart, think Korean soaps and family are the main things. Korean soap you may ask, indeed sounds ridiculous. Imagine a living room of 3 girls sitting on the couch munching on Christmas food and laughing their heads off because of Korean romantic comedies.
When my mom first arrived in Toronto, this was one of her favorite past times. After she finished the chores she would sit and have a good laugh. She has done that less recently because she has finally settled in Toronto and is now involved many other activities, but mid week we visited pac mall and bought a couple episodes. Before I would never be able to tolerate the 40 hour marathons and for those I was interested in but lacked the patience, I would steal the last episode and watch in my room. However the past week I have come to appreciate the laughs and tears.
My mom has been through a lot, and there are some things that are painful to be dwelling on. I have come to understand why she appreciates the moments when she can watch a show and be encouraged by the characters and how the plots always end in happy endings. (and it helps if the actors and actresses are good looking as well =p) And in ways, our family is similar to the way many of the Korean families relate. There is this one recurring scene of the mother giving the daughter instruction on the ways of life. Spent a lot of time with my mom this week, from the facials to browsing at Pac mall, even just sitting at home, and my mother has shared with my much wisdom. She has had a hard life and a long road ahead but counts her blessings daily and reminds us of God’s provisions. I do love her dearly and am encouraged by her faith and reliance on the Lord.
And this time, even Connie has joined us in front of the TV. It’s great to have Connie back. Seeing how God has provided for her in Edmonton but also mold her as she endures the many trials, she’s a strong one. We’re still missing Jamie though, in Hong Kong totally enjoying herself and spending time with family there. And think we’re learnt that even though we’re not physically together, whether we are in Hk, TO or even heaven, family is family.
O and there is Tammy, she decided to get baptized this Christmas. I nearly cried when I read her testimony, but the tears rolled down as I saw her with a big smile share about how she experienced God’s provisions. Her smile totally lights up a room and even a stage.
Last night, our church’s youth choir put on musical which highlighted the meaning of Christmas. I think my friend said it the best, it was a very warm environment, felt like we were at home. For me, it wasn’t just the night but also because I know the dedication the teens and those involved had put into the skit that would challenge the congregation. They have dedicated their whole break to serving at the church; this last week at the church practicing for the performance and next week at Jeremiah retreat. Looking forward to that, really pray that they will be able to be renewed as well.
In the last scene of the musical, all of the youths and children were holding candles, a glimpse of how our church is to be, a light because of what Jesus has done, on this corner of our city.
